  9. Repository Place for deliveries of data, information, and knowledge to the international reporting system

  10. Content Registry Keeps track of the deliveries of data sets to the international reporting system, and other content.

  11. Content Registry - Basic Concept Content registry refere to Data harvest metadata Descriptions RDF, DCES Metadata Repositories Data

  12. Content Registry- Basic Concept Transfer of metadata from services (repository) to CR • Put it into RDF, send to CR when requested • RDF generated on the fly • RDF pre-saved • (Scenario for most of the services) • Send it as objects via SOAP calls • requires an API wrapper at the service side • (Scenario for CIRCA)

  13. Content Registry- Basic Concept Metadata transfer with RDF <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?> <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"> <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://eea.eu.int/sdrat4"> <dc:creator>Jensen</dc:creator> <dc:title>Signals 2002</dc:title> <dc:language>English</dc:language> <dc:type>Report</dc:type> <dc:coverage>EU</dc:coverage> <dc:relation> follow up of Signals 2001 <eionet:rod-id>78890</eionet:rod-id> </dc:relation> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF> Store into CR-DB . . . . . . . . . 18. Multilingual Aspect - GEMET • metainformation contain keywords of the • General Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus • consists of ~5400 terms • translated into 19 European languages • polyhierarchical • includes synonyms • ‘sorted’ by environmental themes • GEMET is used also for discovery

  19. GILS CDS GELOS Dublin Core Mapping GELOS against DC

  20. Bridges

  21. Swedish Environet • Swedish EnviroNet: DCES with its own extensions (DCQ)

  22. DC and Environmental Information • Environmental information resources become increasingly available through the internet. • EIONET is adopting DCES for description and discovery of its information resources by: • extending DCES and DCQ with the ‘missing’ elements and qualifiers, while fitting them with their domain specific themes and • defining an individual namespace for each data element. • ReportNet is the approach to integrate services based on DC.

  23. The End... matthias.menger@numis.niedersachsen.de ...is just the beginning thom.pick@numis.niedersachsen.de

  24. DC: Environment InterestGroup The Idea for such open forum might be: • to collect information on usage of DC in the environmental domain, • to give guidance of the use of DC in the environmental domain, • to install a forum for discussion of issues concerning DC with respect to environmental information resources, • to develop an application profile for the environmental domain, based on DC • to establish the representation of the environmental domain and their issues in DCMI (and vice versa?) ...

  25. DC:Environment InterestGroup • ... • to promote interoperability within the environmental domain through the use of dublin core • to liaise with other communities in the environmental domain that do not use DC for their resources • explore the possibilities to set up a DCMI Working Group for Environment matthias.menger@numis.niedersachsen.de thom.pick@numis.niedersachsen.de
