A33 Corridor Improvements, Basingstoke 2. Introduction Hampshire County Council started work in August 2017 to construct a £10.6 million package of highway improvements to increase capacity and help reduce congestion on the A33 in Basingstoke, between the Ringway and Binfields roundabouts. Dyer & Butler are delivering the scheme on behalf of Hampshire County Council and the work is due to be complete in early 2019. The scheme will also help ease congestion in two of Basingstoke’s major employment areas at Chineham and Hampshire International Business Parks, as well as aid any potential expansions and future job creation. Improvements include: • widening the existing approach roads • road widening works on the roundabout • installation of traffic signals on the roundabout • upgrading of existing pedestrian and cycle facilities and connections • drainage works This scheme has been funded by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership and local contributions.
Ringway Roundabout Improvements 3. Works Update Ringway Roundabout Works are nearing completion at Ringway Roundabout with the finished surface, white lines and new roads signs all completed. Top soiling, final clearance works and installation of the traffic lights are due to be completed in the coming months. The current traffic management layout will largely remain the same for the next month, after it will be adjusted to enable works to start on the east traffic island and re-surfacing works to be carried out. Night time lane closures and road closures will be required towards the end of the spring to enable surfacing works to be undertaken. As usual notification will be provided for these closures and appropriate diversion routes will be put in place.

Environment 12. Ecology and Drainage Crockford Pond has been cleared of debris and silt, and enlarged, to help drain the A33 and Crockford Roundabout. This required the removal of a newt habitat in the summer and autumn months, thereby avoiding the amphibian breeding season of March to June. At Binfields Roundabout the new drainage network will comprise of an underground attenuation system, which during significant rainfall events will hold water and slowly release into an outfall in a controlled way, thereby avoiding potential flooding situations and minimising impacts on the environment.
