2. Federal funding established through the Affordable Care Act • Maine CDC applied – statewide proposal in partnership with the 9 districts • Western District Steering Committee submitted initial commitment to participate • Grant awarded is much smaller than budget proposed –Funding for each district: • $90,000 per year for 5 years (assuming funding continues) • District Coordinating Council-Steering Committee to oversee implementation, with fiscal agent managing the contract on DCC’s behalf

4. Changes to the Objectives Required objectives: • Expanded nutrition beyond “Farm to School” to “improve nutrition policy” • Expanded this objective to include early child care • Broaden physical activity to include early childhood education & child care

7. District roles & responsibilities District Coordinating Councils • Establish a sub-committee, called the CTG Oversight Committee with diverse district representation • Has MOU with district fiscal agent

8. District roles & responsibilities DCC Oversight Committee • Working with District Liaison and CTG project manager, develop work plan and budget • Inventory district activities & gaps • Provide direction and oversight • Report progress to DCC

9. District roles & responsibilities District Fiscal Agent • Enters into contract with Maine CDC to provide staff and fiscal management • Provide orientation regarding agency functions & HR requirements • Enter into MOU with DCC • Work with Oversight Committee to ensure implementation of CTG

10. District roles & responsibilities District CTG staff • Coordinator hired through fiscal agent – designated as primary point of contact • Under direction of Oversight Committee, coordinate implementation of CTG work plan

11. District roles & responsibilities District Liaison • Represent CTG management team and the Division of Population Health • Facilitate selection of CTG priorities and the development of the CTG work plan • Review work plans, qrtly & annual reports HMPs • Participate in inventory • Provide information on district strengths & weaknesses • Collaborate on strategies as they overlap with current work

12. Where are we at? • Western DCC fiscal agent identified: Community Concepts, Inc. • MOU drafted – ready to be signed • Maine CDC to contact Community Concepts re: contract – intended start date January 15 • Need to conduct preliminary inventory – due January 18 • 20 items to review/ 10 that are critical • Western DCC recruiting for Oversight Committee

13. What we need to do next • Decide what objectives the district will focus on • Conduct a preliminary inventory: what programs are currently in the district; where are the gaps • Determine what level FTE coordinator we need • Develop a DCC Oversight Committee
