  3. Situation in Köln • Stadtbibliothek (nähe Neumarkt) • USB (Fernleihe, Sofortausleihbereich, Lehrbuchsammlung) → Führungen • Publizistik (EG. Philosophikum) • Darüber hinaus: Instituts- und Seminarsbibliotheken → Bibliothek des historischen Seminars (3. Stock Philosophikum)

Systematik: • Die Systematik der Bibliothek macht deutlich, dass die Einteilung nach ganz verschiedenen Kriterien möglich ist, so etwa: a) nach der Art der Werke: Lexika, Nachschlagewerke, Monographien, Handbücher, Zeitschriften etc. b) nach Chronologie (hier teilweise innerhalb der einzelnen Bereiche) c) nach Teildisziplinen: vom Gegenstand her: Kultur, Wirtschaft , Kirche etc. d) nach geographisch-politischen Gesichtspunkten also nach Regionen, Ländern, Staaten usw. • Entscheidend dabei zu wissen ist, dass sich solche Einteilungen nicht von selbst ergeben und nicht ausschließlich durch den Gegenstand nahegelegt werden. Sie unterliegen vielmehr der Entscheidung des Historikers und implizieren methodische, politische und weltanschauliche Prämissen, sind daher stets zu hinterfragen.
