GAS – LTI project objectives To develop an online resource to support summative peer evaluation for use in assessed group projects.
GAS: Key features • Self-contained system • Within UH access control system, but • Supporting cross-course interdisciplinary working • Highly customisable • Efficient for staff and students • Based on established peer assessment methodology
Group Working – why? • Valuable learning resource • Employ important vocational and life skills • Part of the Learning Outcomes for many programmes • Motivate students • Improve retention and participation • Enable substantial outcomes (Gibbs 2009)
Evaluative criteria for group assessment methods • Maximise learning • Academic rigour • Students’ perception of fairness • Auditable and transparent • Consistent with other assessment practice • Efficiency of administration • Lecturer workload
GAS: A Hybrid strategy • An assessment-design model using a mix of contributing elements; products and process. • Lecturer marks outcomes. • Students confidentially grade all group members’contributions to process using simple, explicit criteria supplied. • The system calculates individual grades. • Lecturer can monitor and moderate peer assessment processes.
