Important Team Information Homework ~ • You can expect your child to have homework most nights and in more than 1 subject area. • Daily assignments are announced and posted in the classroom as well as on our team webpage. http://www.jamesvilledewitt.org/teacherpage.cfm?teacher=186 • Assignments that are turned in late will lose credit for tardiness and please note some assignments will not be accepted after due date. • Missing assignments are posted in the room.

Team Info Cont’d Class Binders~ • Your child has a binder for Sci, SS, and Math. • It is the primary resource for tests & quizzes. • Please do not take graded pages out of your child’s binder. All pages should STAY IN THE BINDER, until the end of the unit. • Flip through and encourage your child to explain the material. • Assignments that are turned in late will lose credit for tardiness and please note some assignments will not be accepted after due date. • Missing assignments are posted in the room.

Math Policies & Things To Know • Entire math binder and ISN brought home each night • Most assignments not accepted late • Missing Assignment board in classroom • Large Weekly Homework board in classroom • Rigorous program following CCLS – 38 min • Math videos on each topic on Google Classroom! • Daily review of binder pages, multiplication facts, • “Keepers” section of binder, and ISN • Take advantage of: IXL, KhanAcademy, Quizlet
Curriculum • The Number System – operations w/ fractions & decimals, comparing integers, number lines, absolute value • Ratios and Proportional Reasoning – unit rates, equivalent ratios, percent, measurement conversions • Expressions and Equations – distributive prop, inequalities, 1 and 2 variable equations, graphing • Geometry - area, volume, surface area w/ triangles & rectangles • --------------------------------------------------------------------- • Statistics & Probability (post state test) – measures of central tendency, displays of data (dot plots, histograms), finding basic probabilities • Graphic representations of concepts • Application of concepts to real-world scenarios

Novels • Reading skills assessed with unit tests • Wide variety of fiction and nonfiction genres with high interest • Developing vocabulary, identifying plot elements • CCLS – using text based evidence to support conclusions • Required reading each week - 100 minutes minimum
REQUIRED READING The Reading Bookmark: • Students are required to read at least 20 minutes each night OR a total of 100 minutes per week • Reading bookmarks are due every two weeks • Parent/Guardian signature is a must for full credit • Students may read a newspaper, magazine, graphic novel, poetry, or novel (highly encouraged) – try new genres on occasion • The goal: Students are to read 25 books during the school year
