Militarism • A national belief and policy of aggressively building a military for the purpose of being stronger than other nations.
Isolationism • A national policy of avoiding treaties and involvement in other countries affairs.
Nationalism • A strong belief in and pride for one’s country
Mutual Defense Alliance • An agreement between countries that if one is attacked, the other will help protect them.
Assassination • The murder of a political figure because of the views that they represent or fight for.
Central Powers • Germany and her allies during World War 1.
Allied Powers • Russia, France, and Great Britain and their allies during World War 1. Also known as the Triple Entente
Artillery • Long-range weapons
Trench Warfare • WW1 defense strategy of digging a ditch to protect soldiers from artillery and machine guns.
No Man’s Land • The area between trenches
U-boats • German Submarines
Mobilize • To get an army ready for war. To move troops and equipment where it can be used against the enemy.
Lusitania • Passenger ship sunk by the Germans in 1915
Armistice • A cease fire agreement.
Treaty Of Versailles • The official end to World War 1 where Germany took full responsibility for the War.
Russian Revolution • Revolution that changed Russia into the first Communist government.
Reparations • Repayment for damage done during a war.
