Care Induction Programmes Feedback from some providers: • ‘Care induction programmes do not consistently meet the Care Certificate Standards’ (there appears to be variation in content and assessment) • ‘New employers lacking confidence in the assessment of the Care Certificate awarded by previous employer’ (new employees completing full induction programme and CC repeatedly)

Care Induction Working Group Proposed focus: • To develop Care Induction Training Programme - based on a Train the Trainer model • Develop/source workbooks, Care Certificate assessment tools, document store for training materials and resources • Consider how to involve Service Users & Carers in planning/delivery/assessment https://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/Learning-development/inducting-staff/care-certificate/Resources-and-support.aspx

Nursing Associate • The Shape of Caring review (HEE, 2015) identified a gap in skills and knowledge between HCAs and RNs • Creation of Nursing Associate role to bridge gap and help meet society’s changing health and care needs • Registered profession, approx. 2000 NAs eligible to apply to NMC register January 2019 • NA role being considered in residential care homes, nursing homes, and home care services
