The Food Bank of Waterloo Region • A community based, charitable organization • Opened its doors in 1984 • Serves Waterloo Region including the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo,Cambridge and the surrounding Townships of Wilmot, Wellesley, Woolwich and North Dumfries
Mission Through community partnerships, we obtain and distribute emergency food from our neighbours for our neighbours
Who We Assist • 24,400 individuals served47% are children • 29% of those served have a source of employment income. • Growing number of individuals on disability and old age security pensions
3 million pounds in Waterloo Region(Over 75,000 tractor trailer loads of food) Worth $6 millionWe share food with 66 Member Agencies and Food Programs How We Assist
Ways People Access Food • We provide food to: • Shelters and hostels • Women’s crisis shelter, mens’ hostels • Meal programs • Hot meal at lunch or dinner • Over 398,000 meals • Hamper programs • Where families or individuals can pick up food for three to five days. Each hamper is packed depending on the make-up of the family • i.e. Milk for children • 62,073 emergency food hampers
