  2. Goals for the PRI Community Survey Provide data for needs assessment • What do adults believe about youth substance use? • What are the biggest problems? • What is the role and effectiveness of law enforcement? • What are adult perceptions of the community’s norms?

  3. Goals for the PRI Community Survey, cont. Collect baseline data for environmental strategies that target adult attitudes. • Social marketing • “Counter” advertising or other targeted communication strategies • Social Norms Marketing • Law enforcement – effectiveness, awareness, public support, etc.

  4. Changes for Fall 2013 • Survey has been revised • Timing: September to December • But don’t take the whole time! • We will find a way to allow contact information

  5. Guidelines Options for implementing the survey: • Survey Monkey – we will send out a unique link for each site to use on-line; survey “as is” • Your own software – send DBHR a dataset with only PRI questions • Use paper version – enter data by hand into Survey Monkey

  6. Guidelines, cont. Representativeness (who, and how many?) • Target: 250-350 respondents • Demographic profile of respondents matches your community • Use a variety of recruiting strategies

  7. Recruiting Strategy Brainstorm!!! Representativeness (who, and how many?) • Target: 250-350 respondents • Demographic profile of respondents matches your community • Use a variety of recruiting strategies

  8. Tips from Megan and Andi – Omak PRI • 1)  Difficult to get men to complete surveys.  • 2)  Helpful to use a variety of venues for survey collection.  • Examples we used (or tried to use):  • Wal-Mart parking lot on a Saturday • City sponsored events (not just prevention related events); • E-mail blast from the school to parents, with Survey Monkey link; • Include in utility bills (we were not able to do this because our City contracts their utility billing out to third party... but we tried);

  9. Tips from Megan and Andi – Omak PRI, cont. • E-mail blast to County employees; • requested large employers’ HR departmentS to send the Murvey Monkey link to all of their employees; • Post Survey Monkey link on Facebook -- ask "friends" to share with their friends; • Host free movie nights at local schools and request adults attending complete the survey upon their arrival. • 3)  When offering pen/paper surveys during community events or at shopping center parking lots, consider having a raffle for small prize ($20 gift card, etc)... a completed survey produces a ticket into the raffle • OTHER IDEAS???????????????????
