THE RONALD MCNAIR POSTBACCALAUREATE ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM Is a Research Internship and Enrichment Program located on the campus of East Tennessee State University
What’s it all about? The Program is designed to encourage students to pursue a graduate level degree. And is a part of the division of the federally funded TRIO programs serving low-income, first generation students or college students from minority groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate education.
To be eligible for the program students must meet the following criteria: • Be a U.S citizen or have a permanent visa; • Have 60 credit hours before beginning the program • Have a 2.8 GPA or better; AND………………….
As previously stated the student must be from a low-income, first-generation college background or Be identified as part of a minority group traditionally underrepresented in graduate studies (such as Black, Native American or Hispanic). A first generation college student means that the parent(s) with whom you lived until the age of 18 DID NOT have a 4 year degree
FINANCIAL SUPPORT The Ronald McNair Program will provide: • Stipends: up to $2,800 per internship • Research conference travel expenses • Housing accommodations for summer interns (if needed)
What type of majors should apply? ETSU McNair Program works with almost any major • Majors serviced in the past: Sociology/Anthropology Criminal Justice Hard sciences English Social Sciences Education Mathematics

The program provides four separate components to prepare students for graduate school admission: • a research experience, • enrichment activities, • career and academic counseling, • participation in a professional conference.
This research internship and enrichment program includes: • Experience in research laboratories • Mentoring relationships with faculty • Participation in a research conference • Workshops on research methodology and developing and presenting research papers • Seminars on financing graduate education, acceptance into graduate school, GRE preparation and dealing with the demands of graduate study • Financial assistance with GRE (if applicable) • Graduate School campus visitations
