Tom Thumb • In 1830 Peter Cooper created a small steam engine called Tom Thumb. • Horse drawn carriage averages 2 mph and a train could average 20 mph • Travel and industry increased in a dramatic way • Tracks increased from 2,800 miles in 1840 to 30,000 by 1860
Orville and Wilber Wright • Orville and Wilber Wright built the first gas powered plane in 1903 • Their first flight in this plane was in December of 1903 • Their invention would transform the way people travel forever
Henry Ford and the Model T • In 1908 Henry for created the assembly line • The assembly line allowed Ford to produce many cars at a cheaper cost • The first car to be produced on the assembly line was the Model T • This boosted the economy and helped to form the auto industry into what it is today
