Online Coursework Submission System Felix Power, LTDU, Information Hertfordshire ltdu@herts.ac.uk
Session Overview • Quick introduction to new features recently released or under development • Next big thing: Marking Grids • Dashboard • Feedback Schemes • Discussion of Questions raised
Latest Features Released or under active development - Summary • Second Marker comments for students (released) • Anonymous Assignments - Module Leaders able to see student names in marker allocation screens (released) • External Examiner interface (dev) • Submission Summary Screen to help with Mark Release/Administration (dev)
Feeding the Dashboard • Can we take student achievement data in various categories as input to the Dashboard? • Would need standardisation • Gives less flexibility in creating Grids/Schemes
Feedback Schemes • Feedback text generated from marker selections • Only one • Used by < 15% last year
What is the difference? • “The marking grid justifies your mark but it is carefully worded comments that the students value for their development” (Feedback Workshop description) • Marking Grids: fixed text • Feedback Schemes: text generated = starting point
Marking Grids • Transparency / Trust • Hope to have an exemplar grid live for Sem B
Marking Grid – Marker’s View • Very similar to a feedback scheme at this point
Granularity – Do we include sub categories? Pros Cons • Accurate capture of student achievement on Grid • Could be technical issues (particularly OMC) • Harder to develop schemes • First column in example would not work
How many Grids? • Relevant but controlled • School / Programme / Several per Programme (for different types of assessment)? • What would you like to see?
Core Transferable Skills • Captured by • Grids? • Feedback Schemes?
