Students from Andrew Muller Primary and Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School presented their technology integration projects, showcasing their research and creativity. Topics ranged from the rainforest to Jackie Robinson, Edmodo, and invasive plants. The projects demonstrated how technology can be used to educate and engage students in various subjects.

Projects from Andrew Muller Primary School Mrs. Starke’s 2nd grade class presented an Animoto Video Slideshow on the Rainforest. After studying and learning about the many animals that live in the Rain Forest, student created a video slideshow with facts about the rainforest, pictures and music. Click Here to view

Projects from Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School Mrs. DeCarmine and Mrs. O’Brien’s students demonstrated how Edmodo is used in various learning activities. Assignments are given in a sort of “safe” facebook” looking environment. The students can upload their assignments through the student backback from home. This feature also helps them to organize their files and websites. Test and quizzes can also be given through Edmodo.
Projects from Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School Mr. Curran’s 4th grade class designed their own Edutainment Projects using the Eduware Remote System. They used the various game structures (Ex: Racing & Jeopardy) to create experiences for students to be excited about learning. Click Here to view
Projects from North Country Road Middle School Mrs. Rubenstrunk and Mrs. Luchsinger’s students collected biographical information on a person of importance and presented their findings in a Glog. Click here to view the Glogs
Projects from North Country Road Middle School Mrs. Opitz 7th grade Science class identified an invasive plant in the Miller Place Pond. The students: • Conducted their own research and were identify the plant • Contacted local environmental • Learn how it is affecting this ecosystem • Created a website to educate our community about the health of the pond and about the historical significance of this ecosystem. • Created a Survey Monkey file to assess how much the community was able to learn about the problems affecting the pond after visiting the website. • This project illustrates how the students were able to take an issue affecting an entire community and use technology to educate others about its effects. As a result of their project, over 200 community members visited the site and completed the survey. Additionally, their project caught the attention of Senator Ken LaValle and Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner. The Town of Brookhaven has now begun to plan on having the pond dredged to remove the invasive plant and restore this ecosystem to its natural habitat.
