  4. My proposed focus How to prepare grade 9 students better before they switch from national curriculum to IBDP course learning?

  5. Why is this focus?

  6. Why is this focus? • Students suffer in the first year of high school learning. • Students need professional help. • A PLC is needed to improve this bad situation.

  7. Who will attend the PLC? High school High school Junior school Experienced 2 or 3 teachers 2 or 3 teachers The Group Teacher who familiar with school administration Humanity Science Foreigner

How to make the PLC work? • Initiated by one high school teacher • Find interest teachers through forum on school intranet • Select monthly rotated leader • Make monthly study and research plan • Survey among students targeting at most concerned problems • Survey among teachers targeting at most concerned problems • Book study about related learning theories • Make monthly seminar plan • Get support from the school administration

  9. How the seminar works? • 2 hours each seminar • 30 minutes book study reflection • 70 minutes discussion about main topic • 20 minutes summary of the monthly topic • one paper report each seminar

  10. Within 6 months…… • 6 seminars under 6 leaders • 6 summaries of 6 seminars • 1 final report of the first period result

  11. After 6 months • Submit action plan to school • Organize a cooperative team • Facilitate teachers in action • Survey on students feedback • Survey on teachers feedback • Make plan for the second period

  12. Goals of this action • Help junior school students to adapt smoothly to IBDP high school learning. • Create a model of PLC in PingHe school.
