Samuel Tildon (democrat) • Govoner of new York, Samuel Tildon had gaind national fame by fighting political corruption in new York.
The outcome of the election • After the election, Tildon had 25,000 more popular votes, but Hayes had more electoral votes. So it was more than five months before it was decided that Hayes was elected
The compromise of 1877 • The compromise of 1877 was made to settle the election dispute between, Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Tildon
Was it a success • Yes and no, the compromise was a success because it brought education and industry to the south, but it ended reconstruction and African Americans weren't given rights.
