  3. Course Description This course gives an overview on the study of the basic principles of using Computers. It focuses on the different manipulation of MS Office Software. By the end of this course, students will be able to exhibit proficiency with the following Microsoft Office 2007 software applications: • Microsoft Outlook 2007 • Google-the web search engine • Microsoft Word 2007 • Microsoft Excel 2007 • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

  4. Course Objectives The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with computers and their common applications. How to use Microsoft Office 2007 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet explorer and Integrating Office applications) in addition to Google-the web search engine. At the end of the course, the student is expected to be equipped with the basic tools to • Writing documents and report. • Preparing Excel spreadsheets. • Making slides presentations using PowerPoint. • Capable to use the Google techniques for every day search..

  7. Attendance Policies (5%) • Students who come to class 10 minutes late will be marked absent. • Students that are regularly absent will be given DN warnings. (See DN Warning Flyer).

  8. DN Warning Schedule this Course “No excuse will be acceptable to change the student’s number of absences or DN status unless it is approved by the College Council”

Other Policies • Course website should be checked frequently. • Students should read from the textbook. • Late assignments will not be accepted. • All assignments must be completed individually by each student • There will be no Make up exam or quiz • Cheating • Exam • Zeros will be given upon suspicion • Assignment • Easy to detect: both parties get a zero

  10. Class Participation (5%) • Students must regularly come to class to participate in class activities and discussions. Will be considered: • Interaction with the instructor. • Asking questions during the class. • Interaction via e-mail with the instructor. • Finishing tutors in the allocated time. • Contacting the Instructor during office hours when needed.

Quizzes (10%) • Students will have the opportunity to take two quizzes during the term. • There will be no makeup quizzes. • All assessments are practical. • All test duration are of 50 minutes. • When done the student must send her quiz file by e-mail to her instructor. • Quizzes are programmed during regular lecture.

  12. Student Responsibility • Each student will be assigned to work on a computer. • The student is responsible of the correct operation of her machine. • For any technical problem the student is asked to contact the IT Center Staff (Second Floor Room #307: Before Lab) to solve the problem.

Majors (30%) • All assessments are practical • All test duration are of 50 minutes • 2 majors: • Major1: on Microsoft Word 2007 • Major2: on Microsoft Excel 2007 • When done the student must send her major file by e-mail to her instructor. • Majors are programmed during regular lecture Using Microsoft Outlook 2007 will be usually taken into account in the Mark.

  15. Majors (30%) • There will be no Make up exam or quiz

Final Exam (30%) • It will be programmed on the whole CMP001 course. • include: • Microsoft Outlook 2007. • Microsoft Word 2007. • Microsoft Excel 2007. • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. • Google-the web search engine. • The student shouldn't leave the exam location before checkingthat her files have reached the instructor. • The student must hand her exam sheet to the invigilator before leaving.

  19. How to Study for this Course • Read the chapter after the lecture • Try to do all of the exercises & Reflect Questions in each chapter. • Think Critically – ask questions, make notes, and reflect on material. • Practice the Demo lessons. • Attempt the Assignments properly.
