  2. We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;He chastens and hastens His will to make known.

  3. The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

  4. Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;

  5. So from the beginning the fight we were winning;Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!

  6. We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,And pray that Thou still our Defender will be.

  7. Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

  8. The Church’s one foundation

  9. The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord;She is His new creation  By water and the Word:

  10. From heav'n He came and sought her  To be His holy Bride;With His own blood He bought her,   And for her life He died.

  11. Elect from every nation,  Yet one o'er all the earth,Her charter of salvation,   One Lord, one faith, one birth;

  12. One holy Name she blesses,  Partakes one holy food,And to one hope she presses,  With every grace endued.

  13. 'Mid toil and tribulation,   And tumult of her war,She waits the consummation   Of peace for evermore;

  14. Till, with the vision glorious,   Her longing eyes are blest,And the great Church victorious  Shall be the Church at rest.

  15. Yet she on earth hath union  With God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion  With those whose rest is won:

  16. O happy ones and holy!   Lord, give us grace that we,Like them, the meek and lowly,  In love may dwell with Thee
