Objectives: 1: Understand the importance of why we need Nursery Programmes 2: Explain what an ABC nursery is. 3: Identify key aspects of a quality Nursery section. 4: List the factors that contribute to a successful Nursery
Task • Get into pairs with someone from a different club. • Describe the nursery situation in your club.
Question What is a GAA Nursery ? A School or place equipped to look after young people(4-7) to promote movement skills (Fundamentals)
Why Bother about Nursery ? • Young people are the club’s future • Children Decide • Parents what to send their children • Competition other Sports • Recruitment tool player & mentors • Children help provide a focus for club development
Children –. Coach: Child Ratio – Equipment – the amount and type of equipment that is used. Content – the type of activities that the children are doing. Organisation & Structure –If there are people responsible for certain jobs other than coaching such as time keeping, registering children etc. format adopted. Time Keeping – all issues related to time keeping (start time, finishing time, amount of time at each activity etc.)
Understanding how the children grow and develop • Physically • Intellectually • Socially • Emotionally This helps parents and coaches to know what to expect from the children.
Adapt activity to suit the needs of young! • Adopting a child-centred approach to all junior club activities • Imparting new knowledge and skills at the right pace and at the appropriate time • Ensuring enjoyable and safe play • Reducing playing area and time. • Programming to include the needs of all young people including those with disabilities • Promoting a broad range of motor skills at a young age
