The Expansion of Industry 1865-1914 • Industrial boom after the Civil War was due to 3 factors: • 1. a wealth of natural resources • Black Gold-(oil) refinement became very important to industry • Bessemer Steel Process- (coal and iron turned into steel)– made steel production cheaper and more efficient- video How stuff works • New uses of steel- railroad construction, skyscrapers, bridges • 2.
