4. I.I The list of extra-curricular activities (co)organied by school

5. CELEBRATIONS Imatriculation of new students Annual symbolic acceptation of students of Prima and freshmen organized by one of the „older“ classes. Every yeat there is a different topic.

6. Benefition concert The biggest school fest that includes performances of talented students and foreign guests for parents and friends of school.

7. Graduation ceremony The final ball of graduates, official farewell with teachers and school. Farewell of graduates Symbolic farewell with students and pedagogical and non-pedagogical staff. Non-formal fest connected with leaving for academical week through the imaginary „gate of life“.

8. SPORT CUPS Sport cups provide talented sporters of our school to develop their skills and represent the school. • 1. year of nation-wide bedminton tournament organized by headmistress • Mix volleyball DEXIA CUP • Organization of sport competition – district round in girl´s hádzaná • Slovak volleyball championship of cadets

9. SHOWS and taking part in various events and discussions: • Taking part in political talkshow „SITO“ • Taking part in conference Physics of microworld (SPU Nitra) • Organization of nation-wide meeting of SprachDiplom teachers • Celebrations connected with end of 2nd World War • Radio shows: Student´s day, St. Valentine, Techer´s Day, Month of book, Holocaust Events, discussions and radio shows supplement and develop the tutelage or they are not directly connected with the tutelage, but enable students to deepen their knowledge. 10. PUBLIC ACTIVITIES Public activities are either organized by school (collecting of paper,...) or students take part in them during and after school-time. • „Biela pastelka“ (White crayon) – public colection for blind people and people who have difficulties to see • Days of health – Zobor – tour (org. – Town of Nitra) and quiz, measuring of blood pressure, propagation of healthy life-style • Collecting of chestnuts • 2x a year collecting of paper • Model CO training

11. PRESENTATION OF SCHOOL These activities enable presentation of school on local and international level through exhibition of skills of our students or direct presentation during „The day of open doors“. • The day of open doors • Meeting of graduates with FACHSCHULE Vienna representants • Performance of students in Vienna with Christmas programme

12. COMPETITIONS In these competitions extra-talented students take part, who develop their skills this way. They prepare in their free time with help of teachers. They are representing school succesfully with their achievments. • Organization of regional round of language competitions in English and German • Organization of regional round of „SOČ“ • Organization of regional round of Mathematic competition • Traffic competition for youger students

13. PROJECTS UNESCO International cultural and educational project oriented on creative development of skills of students ad getting known other cultures. COMENIUS Setting Europe in Motion (Integration als ein Entwicklungsprojekt) International projected with aim to improve school systems in European countries

14. ,,Dreams and Teams“ Project organized by British council and British organization „Youth Trust“ aimed to bring up young leaders through sport and changing of experience between partner schools. Ecopacks Topic: Separation and recyklation of litter Aim: Protection of nature Project Infovek Topic: Project of informatozation of regional schools Aim: Education of teachers in the sphere of using information and communication technologies in their work Project Europe – Schulbrucke II Topic: Getting closer of EU nations Aim: Cooperation between EU nation and getting known their cultures

SUMMING-UP • Nearly a half of our students takes part in at least one activity • Social sciences – mainly foreign languages – are attended mainy by students of language classes • From arts are most popular dance, fine art and singing • Various sport activities are attended mostly by students of sport classes, who at the same time, do not attend other activities, as sport consumes much of their time • Fight arts (karate, jiu jitsu, tae-kwon-do, tae-bo) • Nature – cynological clubs, riding clubs,... • These activities are attended more by younger students

I.IV Attitude of Slovak universities to extra-curriclar activities • Most of universities do not pay attention to these activities, students are even told not to mention these activities in their application form • Only at one faculty – Philosophical Faculty of Comenius university – journalistic and marketing communication – only own literar works

I.V Attitude of Slovak school system to these activities • In Slovakia these activities are not a part of curricula, students do them in their free time • Advantages – only when these activities are supported by teacher • Many problems: • Lack of tolerance from teachers • Lack of finance • They are not able to synchronize their work with school • Uninterest and uncooperation of their school-mates • Students are not lead to „project thinking“, they are not creative and cannot improvise; his can cause problems in their future study at univerity

Our vision how o improve this: • Teachers have to understand that these activities are not a way hoe to play truant, they are many times much more exhausting than study itself • Students need to be motivated as well, projects give them useful experience • Propagation of projects • Teacher who takes care about the activity is very important • Support of school • There should be some activities in every subject, so that students would be able to choose which one(s) they want to work at • Education from young age • Acceptation of achievments of students at universities

SUMMING-UP • More activities – cultural, educational and inter-subject excursions, more sport events, excursions to abroad • More social events, so that students could meet more also outside the school in their free time • Most of the teachers claim to cooperate or organize various activities • In their opinion, students do not take part in these activities because they do not have enough time • Suggestions – excursions to abroad, student exchange organized by school, knowledge competitions.

23. I.VII Interview with headmistress 1. How do you evaluate extra-curricular activities of our students? Important part of study, helps students to relax as well 2. Which activities do you personally support at most? All activities that help students to educate themselves, to impove their knowledge and self-confidence, to break various bariers and pejudices... 3. Which activities organized by school do you consider to be the best ones? Projects, trips, excursions, benefition concert. 4. What about your future plans? I would like to give these activities some system, to establish activities with tradition, to achieve that these activities would be liked also by teachers... 5. How do these activities affect the teaching process? Only activities that are connected with tutelage, only occasionally also others 6. What about advantages and disadvantages of these activities? Many advantages, but they can be dangerous, student can give up learning, they can e also financially exhausting. 7. What other activities would you welcome? Cultural and art activities: school theatre, dance club, fine art,.. More sport activities Clubs of nature sciences and technic Excursions to abroad

26. EXCURSIONS They help students to get to know the current tutelage in praxis or to get more information about it. • For example: • Arboretum Tesárske Mlyňany • Castle Driny • Visit of botanic garden • Visit of sitting of regional prliament • Visit of sitting of Slovak Parliament • Literature excursions • Visit of observatorium in Hlohovec

27. TAKING PART IN EVENTS Here belong mainly cultural and social events mostly connected with current tutelage. CHATS They give the students a possibility to meet various interesting personalities and to get to know something more about their job. They have also an educational character and can help to prevent various dangers such as drug addiction.

28. SPORT ACTIVITIES • Skiing trips • OOČ • School in nature These activities aim to improve the orientation of students in nature and their sport skills. They are good also for health.

29. II.II Question for teachers In what way do activities included in curricula affect the teaching process? What are their advantages and disadvanteges? Which ones do you consider to be good and which ones would you welcome? • Mostly – both pros and cons • Good – broading of knowledge, skills, inteligemce, develompent of creativity and forming of character; they can also help to improve the attitude of student to subject • Bad – students are often out of school anf they can exploit these activities to play truant
