Church of the Advent Vision and Mission Updated 2009
Who We Are • Church of the Advent is a village church in the heart of it all. • We are a vibrant community, rooted in the Episcopal Church, located in a dynamic area of the Highlands, on the edge of Downtown Louisville.
Our Vision • To become a community that lives a meaningful, transforming connection with God, others and our world. • We seek to mirror the radical hospitality practiced by Jesus.
Our Mission • Welcome all Seekers. • Nurture one another in journeys of faith. • Serve God’s world.
A Worshipping Community • Our community gathers on Sunday to worship God, as we celebrate the mystery of Christ’s faithful, challenging and healing presence. • Our Sunday services reflect the beauty of traditional Episcopal liturgy, our 8AM service without music and our 10:30 AM service accompanied by choir and pipe organ. • On Thursday evenings at 7 PM, we gather for a tranquil, ecumenical candlelight service, incorporating silent meditation and the soothing piano music of Taizé .
A Diverse Group of People • Our community includes people with a wide range of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives. • We are individuals and families, traditional and non-traditional. • We understand our diversity as a particular gift of God in the life of our community. • We welcome the gifts that each new person may bring to the life of the community.
A Community of Fellowship • An active & caring Lay Ministry • A Gifted Choir & Choir Exchange Events • Our new Women’s Retreat • The Gratitude Dinner hosted by the Vestry for our Parishioners • A Champagne & Chocolate hospitality event • Our Newcomer Program including Shepherds, Bread Ministry & Newcomer Receptions • Participation in the St. Pat’s Day Parade, Bardstown Rd Aglow, Trolley Hops & more
