CURRENT PROGRAMME STATUS • Total programme funding = 30.2 Million Euros, including Non Member State contribution • 100% of programme funding now committed • NPP has funded: • 62 preparatory projects - seed money projects (15 aiming towards new programme) • 47 main projects • Over 400 different project partners involved • Average main project involves 9 partners • 68 % of all projects involve Small and Medium Size companies
PRIORITIES • 3 programme priorities and 6 measures: • Priority 1: Communications • Measure 1.1 Transportation, Logistics and Transport Infrastructure • Measure 1.2 Access to Information Society • Priority 2: Strengthen Sustainable Economic Development • Measure 2.1 Sustainable Use of Nature and Natural Resources • Measure 2.2 Business Innovation & Development of Human Resources • Priority 3: Community Development • Measure 3.1 Household Related Service Provision • Measure 3.2 Public Management & Spatial Planning
PROJECT EXAMPLE: ROADEX II Objectives: ROADEX II aimed to develop ways for interactive and innovative road condition management of low traffic volume roads in the Northern Periphery integrating the needs of local industry, roads districts and society at large. This involved developing models, assessment methods, guidelines, tools and checklists to improve local road condition management taking into account the views of road users and stakeholders.
PROJECT EXAMPLE: ROADEX II Final Results • New survey practices to focus to actual problem sections and making correct diagnosis for the problems • New models and treatment agents for designing economical structures against permanent deformation • New fit for purpose structures and their life cycle information • New techniques for real time road condition monitoring • New ideas for using modern information and sensor technology in rular road network condition management • New information for political decision makers about the importance of the rural road condition
PROJECT EXAMPLE: PNASTINA • Objectives: • Regional development of an operational environment for natural stone enterprises. • Highlighting of environmentally and economically sustainable, good quality natural stone resources with geological exploration and its results. • • Creation of a transferable regional business development and resource management concept to stimulate and increase sustainable stone production and local entrepreneurship. • • Transfer and sharing of best practise and know-how throughout the Northern Periphery area and stimulation of co-operation across borders.
PROJECT EXAMPLE: PNASTINA • Some results to date: • Start up of a small quarry industry on Greenland producing soapstone for local use. • A huge ”world class”, soapstone deposit has been identified and investigated in the Norwegian area of the project. • Due to the Pnastina project Lapplands Natursten has contacts with the Italian company, yellowstone, which has resulted in sales of mylonite blocks of natural stone. • An extensive co-operation with Heidelberg University, university resources have participated in the development of PNASTINA both on PhD and on student level.
PROJECT EXAMPLE OUR LIFE AS ELDERLY Objectives: Our Life as Elderly aspires to prepare municipalities and develop concrete tools to meet common challenges in terms of staff recruitment and development, technical support, organisational systems etc. caused by an increasing proportion of elderly people and fewer young people to support them. The project aims to meet this challenge, as well as to enhance the competitive edge of these sparsely populated regions to attract more inward investment.
PROJECT EXAMPLE: OUR LIFE AS ELDERLY Some results to date: Policy document for future elderly care within the fields of: • Housing • Competence dev. and staff recruitment • Services for the elderly • Health services • Relatives and akin These newly developed policies have already been implemented in the Municipality of Luleå, Sweden.
