RUBRIC • A “4” Picture Book fully achieves the purpose of the assignment: writing 20 sentences --underlining at least one adverb or adverbial phrase per sentence-- that describe 20 pictures; the 20 sentences focus on ONE TOPIC. The Picture Book pictures fully and elaborately develop the selected topic and the Picture Book sentences succinctly express appropriate ideas about the pictures with accurate and precise supporting details expressed through adverbs and adverbial phrases. The Picture Book demonstrates insightful understanding of all 13 categories of adverbs and adverbial phrases and of the connections among categories, as appropriate.

  7. RUBRIC • A “4” Picture Book is well-organized and follows the format required: Cover Page indicating Author, Title and Date of completion; and all pages are numbered from 1 to at least 21. Pictures consistently adhere to the topic selected by each student; sentences use at least one adverb or adverbial phrase, underlined, and logically and explicitly connect to the pictures.

  8. RUBRIC • A “4” Picture Book has a distinct voice –either 1st or 3rd-- which conveys a particular tone and point of view toward the topic. The Picture Book exhibits superior techniques to enrich meaning using accurate and precise adverbs and adverbial phrases in its descriptive language, word usage, and variations in sentence patterns. Its overall effect evokes an emotional response from the reader.

  9. RUBRIC • A “4” Picture Book demonstrates superior command of mechanics, usage, grammar, and spelling (MUGS). It is free of errors that interfere with the writer’s meaning.
