What is a hemisphere? If the Earth is a sphere.
There are the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Northern Hemisphere We live here. Southern Hemisphere
There are the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. We live here. Western Hemisphere Eastern Hemisphere
The Earth rotates/spins on its axis. Axis Axis
It takes the Earth 1 day or 24 hours to rotate/spin on its axis. Axis Axis
The Earth’s rotation on it’s axis also gives us night and day. Axis Night time Daytime Axis
The axis of the Earth also shows that the Earth is tilted to one side. Axis Axis
When the axis of the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun it is our Summer. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Axis Axis Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
When the axis of the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun it is our Winter. Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Axis Axis Summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Review the following Earth Facts. • Earth takes 1 year or 365 days to orbit/revolve around the Sun. • Around 75% of the Earth is water. • Earth has 4 hemispheres. We live in the Northern Hemisphere • It takes the Earth 1 day or 24 hours to spin on its axis. • Day and night are caused by Earth’s rotation on its axis. • The seasons such as Summer and Winter are caused by the Earth’s tilt.
