Classroom Refresh Overview • eTech is funding ongoing replacement of (and improvements to) classroom equipment • Initial SmartClassroom renovations began in 2003, many original components are still relied upon for everyday use • Replacement of virtually all components in 130+ rooms over a 5 year cycle, starting with the oldest rooms first • Ongoing funds allow us to replace an aging inventory, replenish supplies of backup equipment, and stay current with new technology standards
2012 Refresh 25 rooms getting enhancements: • 20 small rooms in Humanities Hall • Small rooms HIB 110, HOB2 130 • Lecture Halls SSLH 100, SSPA 1100 • Lecture Halls ELH 100, HSLH 100A, and PSLH 100 get “trouble spot” audio & video improvements - between 9/4 and 9/21 Due 9/21 Due 8/3
2012 Refresh • Feedback was gathered from student and faculty surveys, and one-on-one discussions with faculty and technical support staff • Specific equipment changes were made to benefit Art History and Film & Media Studies in their priority classrooms. • Long term administrative costs and management solutions also played a factor
Technology Changes • New computers w/ digital outputs, widescreen monitors • 16:9 format screens and widescreen data projectors • Extrontouchpanels and controllers in place of AMX devices • New switchers, distribution amplifiers, digital video pathway • Blu-ray players in each room (VHS decks being removed)
Technology Changes • Software installed on all PCs to allow for playback of any region DVDs • Digital and analog laptop cables • Stereo audio & external microphone inputs in each room • Gooseneck mics in rooms >49 seats • Full HD projection in Art History and Film & Media Studies rooms
Technology Changes • Lectern adjustments to reduce monitor glare and customize monitor viewing angle • SSLH & SSPA get HD document cameras & widescreen digitizing tablets • Audio and video infrastructure improvements in all 5 lecture halls
Significant Points OIT CTS is performing the majority of work in-house, including: • Re-design and installation of entire system • Re-wiring all components • Programming of new Extrontouchpanels& controllers • Installation of new room management software & server • Testing functionality of all equipment • Training faculty & staff on new systems
