  3. 2013 Cancer Center Competitive Supplement • To promote cancer research and to increase research capacity in LMICs through collaborations or research partnerships between NCI-Designated Cancer Centers and foreign institutions • One-year pilot study

SCOPE • Basic, translational or clinical research • Training and capacity building • Informatics, data managing and sharing • Biorepositories establishment and management • Retrospective or prospective studies, assay development • HIV-associated malignancies; integration of HIV programs that benefit cancer patients

  5. RFP 2013 STATISTICS • Contract mechanism • $200K Total Cost • 43 proposals received • 42 proposals reviewed • 15 proposals to be awarded • 5 currently awarded (as of March 7, 2014) • 5 at sites for signature • 3 in negotiations • 2 pending clearance at FIC

Future considerations • How to encourage NCI Cancer Centers and universities working in same country or region to work together, both in cancer and across diseases? • How to encourage US Cancer Centers to work with other developed world universities and institutions? • Trans-NIH approach? • Health surveillance, training, research, career development, research to policy & public health practice, etc.
