CHOLERA • Cholera is a disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. • It was discovered in 1854. • It appeared in India and spread to Europe and America causing millions of deaths.
•This is the the bacteria that causes the cholera. •This is Filippo Pacini an italian doctor that discovered the disease.
Transmission • Peopleget cholera bydrinkingfluidsoreatingcontaminatedfood. • A Cholera epidemiciseasytoappear in areaswithinadequatetreatment of sewage and drinkingwater. • It spread mainlythroughthefeces of aninfectedperson.
SYMPTOMS •The main symptoms are: -Abdominal pain -Watery diarrohea -Stools are whitish -Vomiting -Absence of fever
INJURIES •Apathy and decay. •Sexual dysfunction. •Memory loss. •Diarrhoea. •Muscle cramps. •Low voltage,weak pulse, tachycardia. •Wrinkled hands, by subcutaneous dehydration. •Increase in blood viscosity for loss of liquids (more probability to suffer ictus and infarcts).
DIAGNOSTIC -Watery diarrohea and high stools makes think about this disease. -Others forms to detect the disease are: •Blood analysis:the reduction of leukocytes is a symptom of the disease. •Stool examination:the elevated presence of leukocytes is another symptom of the disease.
TREATMENT There are two ways: •Serums:Used totreat the disease and moisturise the sick. There are two types: -Oral:Itconsists of a serum that drips onto the mouth slowly throughout the day. -Intravenous: Itis used to restore large amount of fluids in patients with a high degree of dehydration or who cannot take oral serum. •Antibiotic: Reducethe cure time,the duration of diarrohea and fluids requirements.
Prevention There are two ways to avoid contracting cholera : •Hygienic measures: Donot take food in poor condition or untreated water. •Vaccines:The first vaccine to the cholera was did by the Spanish Doctor Jaume Ferran i Clua.
COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD AFFECTED BY CHOLERA • Thisdiseaseoccursmainly in underdevelopedregionssuch as LatinAmerica ,India ,sub-saharan,Africa and Southeast Asia. • In thismapthere are twoareas: countrieswith cases of cholerain gray and thearea of black dots, which are imported cholera cases
