Daily Planner This is the key to your child’s success in fourth grade!! Every Monday, we take out our planners and copy any assignments into the planner. Your child’s planner should NEVER come home blank. If you look at it and see that it is blank, please ask your child what should have been written in the planner (or better yet, message us on Dojo and let one of us tell you what should have been written in there!!) Please sign your child’s planner each evening to affirm you have reviewed it. Friday Folder Every Friday, we send home a folder with all kinds of paperwork inside. All your child’s graded work for the week will come home in this folder as well. Please look through your child’s folder and return the folder to school on Monday.
Classroom Rules! • Class Dojo – Each child has a class dojo account for behavior. Points are given daily for following rules and procedures. Points can also be taken away if students need behavioral reminders. You can view your child’s report on the app. • ***Students with two or more referrals will not be allowed to attend the St. Augustine field trip.*** • Students may buy passes with their Dojo points. This will show up as losing points, but will say “buy a pass” so that you know what it is. • School Rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

Fourth Grade Reading Reading will consist of Wonders, Accelerated Reading, Ready and other reading activities. Your child’s overall reading grade will be based on the Wonders assessment tests, reaching their AR goal, Ready quizzes, Vocabulary and Writing. Wonders assessments – Selection quizzes vs End of Lesson Test Each Tuesday night your child will have some form of written homework in ELA. Your child should be reading 20 minutes three nights a week to meet his / her individual AR goals.
Accelerated Reader – what should my child be doing? • We have AR time in class to read and take tests and check out books. They should make an 80% or better on each of these tests. • Students will be given one grade for AR on FOCUS towards their overall nine-weeks reading grade. The grade is determined by their overall testing percent and the percent of their goal met. • When you sign your child’s planner you are also signing to say your child has done the daily reading of 20 minutes.
WRITING Writing this year is very important. We will spend the year focusing on opinion and informative writing. The students in fourth grade will take the FSA Writing this year in the spring. This is part of their ELA test.
What Parents Can Do • Encourage your child to do his / her written ELA homework once a weeknight and to read at the higher end of the ZPD for A.R. the other three nights for 20 minutes. • Read complex text WITH YOUR CHILD and just ask questions about what you guys are reading!!
