Mongolia has made great progress in its transition to a market-based system since the early 1990s. After years of flat or negative growth rates, economic growth took off in 2004 (10.6%) and is expected to stabilize at between 5 to 6% per year for the next few years. The bulk of this growth comes from the mining and agriculture. Mongolian economy
Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry • The Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the main representative body of Mongolian business community. • 25 Councils. • 17 local branch Chambers. • 90 staffs at HQ office. • 1500 nationwide members of which 70% are SMEs. • Founded in 1960. First Mongolian IP agent since 1970. Patent & Trademark Bureau cooperates with around 100 law firms from 20 countries.

Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Following Committees and Councils have been operating at MNCCI to expand public-private-partnership • Government and the Private Sector Consultative Committee • Customs and Businesses Consultative Committee • Municipal Office and the Private Sector Consultative Committee • Legal Consultative Committee • National Committee of Trade facilitation
Patent & Trademark Bureau • MNCCI established Patent & Trademark Bureau in 1970. • Patent & Trademark Bureau cooperates with around 100 law firms of 20 countries. • Annually Patent and Trademark Bureau deal with over 200 trademarks, 60 patents and 25 industrial design and utility model certificates in average. • Bureau operates Franchising Council within the Chamber. • We offer 30% discounted service fee for members. • Main functions: Bureau deals with industrial property rights issues such as registering, filing and prosecuting of applications for patents, trademarks, geographical indications and industrial designs, renewal and assignment thereof, records of ownership changes and licenses as well as their litigation. We provide legal advice to domestic and foreign customers and clients, while handling with international registration of trademarks.

International cooperation with WIPO (5) Exhibition of Women inventors • Organized by WIPO, Korean Women Inventors Association (KWIO) • Korean International Women’s Invention Exposition 2008 • May 8-10, 2008, in Seoul, Korea • Representative from PTB of MNCCI participated and set up contacts and relationships with Korean participants.

Networking and Partnerships • Both MNCCI and PTB (Patent & Trademark Bureau) cooperate with and coordinate activities of domestic organizations (IPOM, MNCCI, Mongolian Association of IP Attorneys, Ministry of Education, Culture and Technology, Public and private Universities, science and research institutions, professional agencies, associations etc) • PTB is actively expanding cooperation with foreign organizations under technical and financial assistance (WIPO, national IP offices of other countries, ICC, ITC, donor organizations, foundations)
National IP Action Plan (1) Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry developed and approved a long- and short-term development plan aimed promoting protection of intellectual properties: National Intellectual Property Action Plan Main Objectives: • To enhance capacity building of government, private sector and social community organizations in order to equally create awareness on IP issues • To promote and encourage invention, initiation, industrial application of intellectual works and protection of intellectual property • To provide a comprehensive policy for IP education
