Placement Recommendations • Background of EDGE Credentials Advice • Who is involved • Methodology and Template • Two examples: • The Bachillerato represents attainment of a level of education comparable to completion of senior high school in the United States. • The Licenciatura / Título de Licenciado(a) represents attainment of a level of education comparable to a bachelor's degree in the United States.

  5. Question 1: Q: I have an applicant for graduate admission who received a MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery) degree from India. Is this person qualified for graduate admission consideration? Find Answer: You would find this information in the credentials section of EDGE under MBBS information. Yes, the MBBS can be considered comparable to a U.S. bachelor’s degree for admission purposes.

  6. Question 2 • Q: I have an applicant who has Associate Membership in the Chartered Accountants of India. What is this credential and is the applicant eligible for admission consideration? • Find Answer: Yes, by checking the India credentials section you will see that the credentials advice is that the Associate Membership is comparable to a U.S. bachelor’s degree.

  7. Question 3 • Q: A student applying for freshman admission from Nigeria asked if we accept “scratch cards”. What is a scratch card and how do I use it? • Find Answer: In the Nigeria Overview section you will find information about scratch cards and in the resources section you will find a link to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) www.waecnigeria.org verification page.

  8. Question 4 • Q: I am evaluating a transcript from Russia and I am not sure why so many courses have a grade of “Pass.” How do I calculate the GPA? And what should I do with the “Pass” courses? • Find Answer: The Grading Scale section of the Russia profile will provide the answers to both of these questions.

  9. Question 5 • Q: A student presented a Master’s Completion Certificate from China. Is this sufficient evidence that the student has received a master’s degree? • Find Answer: You will find the answer in the Credentials Advice section of EDGE, which lists both the Completion Certificate and the Degree Certificate.

  10. Question 6 • Q: I received a transcript from Brazil that had the grade “Sem Rendimento”. What does this mean? • Find Answer: You will find the answer in the Grading Scale section of EDGE. “Sem Rendimento” = Fail or no grade

  11. Question 7 • Q: I am evaluating a transcript from Kyrgyzstan and do not read Cyrillic letters. I need to know how the words “University” and “Academy” appear in Cyrillic. • Find Answer: The glossary section for the Kyrgyzstan profile contains both words in Cyrillic.

  12. Question 8 • Q: I have a transcript from Sardar Patel Mahavidyalaya University in India. I am not familiar with this institution and need to know if it is accredited. How do I find out using EDGE? • Find Answer: On the institutions page of the India profile you will find a link to the University Grants Commission web site, which has a search tool to find accredited institutions and their contact information.

  13. Question 9 • Q: I have a student who completed his education in Belgium but did part of it under the Flemish system and part of it under the French system. How can I see how the 2 systems compare in terms of credits and levels? • Find Answer: The Educational Ladder section in EDGE has a ladder for both systems.
