Vendors (continued) Create a relationship with your vendors. They are possibilities for help in a disaster recovery situation– ie: loaner equipment and servers, off-site storage, assistance with planning and rebuilding **It won’t hurt to ask them for help**
Networking • Have a PLAN… • Create short term and long term goals for infrastructure, maintenance , expansion and usage. Make sure you ask others for their input and ideas as well. • Plan to expand, your needs will change, be sure that what you put in place is able to grow as your needs grow and change
Networking (continued) • Use the best possible cable for your network backbone (Cat 6) • Don’t try to save a dime on small pieces of important equipment such as switches…you get what you pay for! • Create a personal storage space on a server for your teachers for backup purposes • If room allows, also create a shared space for teachers to collaborate and share information
Networking (Continued) • If you currently share a server with the church, budget for one of your own. There are different needs between church and school • Create as much redundancy as possible • Server redundancy is a MUST • Be sure that any wireless access is secured
Disaster Recovery • Several methods: • Tape • Drive • Cloud • Shadow copies (in Windows) • Whatever you do, make sure you test your disaster recovery method and are familiar with how to use it to recover from a disaster
