  1. VAULT ARTICLE 8

  2. 8.1 General • The gymnast is required to perform one or two vaults from the Table of Vaults, depending on the Requirements for that competition phase. • She is responsible for the flashing of the intended vault number prior to the beginning each vault. • The recommended run distance is a 25 meters. However, the run distance may be individually set.

  3. WARM UP March 2011: Judges Help Desk The maximum warm up time is 30 seconds per gymnast multiplied by the number of gymnasts in the group = Total “touch warm up” time. There is no limit for the number of warm-up attempts within the warm up time.

  4. 8.1 General • After receiving the green light or signal from the D1 - judge, the gymnast executes the first vault and then returns to the end of the runway to post the number for her second vault. After the score of the first vault is flashed, she must be ready to immediately begin her second vault. • The vault begins with a run, an arrival and take-off from the board with two feet, from either a forward position or backward position • No vault with sideward take-off or landing may be submitted

  5. Permitted Running Approaches • If the gymnast has not touched the springboard and/or the vaulting table: • two approaches, when 1 vault is required (third approach not permitted) • three approaches, when 2 vaults are required (fourth approach not permitted).

  6. SAFETY COLLAR • The gymnast is required to properly use the "safety collar" supplied by the Organizing Committee for round-off entry vaults.

  7. Group I – Vault without Saltos Handspring, Yamashita, Round-off • with or without LA turns in • 1st and/or 2nd flight phase

  8. Group 2 – Handspring Forward • With or without 1/1 turn in 1st flight phase • Salto forward or backward with or without LA turn in 2nd flight phase

  9. Group 3 - Tsukahara (Handspring with ¼ - ½ turn in 1st flight phase) • Salto backward with or without LA turn in 2nd flight phase

  10. Group 4 – Yurchenko (Round-off) • with or without 360° turn in 1st flight phase • Salto Backward with or without LA turn in 2nd flight phase

  11. Group 5 – Round off with ½ turn in 1st flight phase • salto forward or backward • With or without LA turn in 2nd flight phase

  12. 8.3 Requirements • The intended vault number to be flashed (manually or electronically) before the vault is performed • In the Qualifying, Team Final and All-Around: • One vault must be performed. • In Qualifying, the 1st vault score counts toward the Team and/or All-Around Total. • The gymnast who wishes to qualify for the Apparatus Final must perform two vaults as per the Apparatus Finals rules.

  13. Apparatus Finals • The gymnast must perform two vaults, which will be averaged for the final score. • The two vaults must show a different Repulsion phase (take off position from the vaulting table) fwd or bwd as follows: • Forward Repulsion • Ex: Handspring – ½ Turn Backward Tuck Salto (Cuervo) • Backward Repulsion • Ex: Tsukahara – Salto Backward with 1/1 LA Turn

  14. Apparatus Finals • Example for Finals: • 1. If the first vault has a bwd Repulsion phase the choices for the 2nd would be: • Round off 1/2 turn on – salto fwd. off • Handspring on – 1/1 turn off or • 2. If the first vault has a fwd Repulsion phase then the choices for the 2nd vault would be: • Yurchenko — Back Salto Stretched • Tsukahara — Back Salto Piked

  15. CLARIFICATION In the Qualification for the Apparatus Finals and Apparatus Finals: If a gymnast received “0” on her first Vault; the 2nd Vault is allowed (provided the gymnast registered for 2 Vaults). In the results calculation count 0.00P in CI, for qualification to CII, and to CIV.

  16. CORRIDOR MARKINGS The guideline for application of the directional deduction (NL #29 – Land in the Corridor but not in the centre of the corridor – 0.10) may be used only if an overhead camera with a screen for review by the Line Judge is available.

  17. CORRIDOR MARKINGS • If no overhead camera is available, the evaluation will be made by the Line Judge as follows: • The direction deductions are taken by the line judge determined by initial contact on landing. …….0.00 ………- 0.10within 5 cms of line or on top of the side line. The line is part of the corridor ……- 0.30 ……- 0.50

  18. C-I - Qualifying • 1 vault must be performed for • C- I Qualifying, C- II AA and C- IV Team • 2 vaults are required for • C-I Qualifying to C-III & • C-III Finals • The 2 vaults are averaged • If 2 vaults performed the 1st is used for Qualification to C-II and C-IV

  19. C III - DIFFERENT VAULTS Ex. 1st Vault # 2.20 score 14.7 2nd Vault # 4.30 score 13.9 (14.7+13.9) /2 = 14.3 Final Score

  20. Same Repulsion Phase • Final Average = Average of both vaults – 2.00 P. 15.10 + 14.70/2 = 14.9 – 2.00 = 12.9 # 5.10 # 2.30

  21. C- III • onlyone vault shown: Evaluation: score of the performed vaultdivided by 2 = Final Score Ex: 1st vault score 11.50 No 2nd vault 11.50/2 = 5.75 Final Score

  22. Invalid Vaults - 0 - • Run approach with touch on the board or table without execution of vault • No touch on vault table • Spotting assistance during the vault • Failure to use the safety collar for round-off entry vaults • Failure to land feet first Note: “0” score recorded by D Panel. (No E Panel function)

  23. Specific Apparatus Deductions • Touch with only one hand 2.00 P. Video review by the D- Panel and Apparatus Supervisor will automatically occur for every vault that receives • “0” or • 2.00 deduction

  24. Deductions

  25. 1st Flight Phase

  26. Repulsion Phase

  27. 2nd Flight Phase

  28. 2nd Flight Phase

  29. General 0.10 0.30 0.50 • Under-rotation of salto • No fall X • With fall X • Insufficient Dynamic X XX • If gymnast is piking down or fails to open (a pike or tuck vault), then THIS indicates a deduction for dynamics should be taken.

  30. Evaluation of Height of Vault • Height of Vault determined by rise in center of gravity (deductions 0.10/0.30/0.50/0.80). • Evaluate according to rise of center of gravity in relation to the vault table. • If there is no elevation of center of gravity then the deduction is the maximum 0.80.

  31. LA Turn Completion • Turns must be completed if not credit the lesser Vault value, e.g: • 2½ twist becomes 2/1 twist • 2/1 twist becomes 1½ twist • 1½ twist becomes 1/1 twist

  32. SALTO FORWARD STRETCHED WITH LA TURN A "snap" (hollow or slightly piked body position) immediately following the repulsion is biomechanically acceptable. Guideline for the Recognition of fwd Salto piked vaults with more than ½ LA turn: 2nd flight phase: If the execution of the LA Turn begins near the end of the execution of pikedsalto, recognize pikedsalto fwd vault.

  33. Recognition of PikedSaltos If gymnast shows bent legs greater than 135⁰ (when she is in the inverted position), consider tucked.
