  1. Skills and Techniques FEEDBACK

  2. Feedback • Feedback is information that you collect about your performance to help you improve. • It can be external, or internal. • External feedback can be: • Verbal • Visual • Written • Knowledge of Results

  3. Feedback • Feedback should be: • Precise • Accurate • Positive. (two stars and a wish) • Easy to understand. • Given as soon as possible.

  4. Feedback • How much feedback should you be giving/receiving? • One or two points each time. • Why? • So that you can focus fully on those points. • Trying to correct too many things at a time will make the improvements harder.

  5. Verbal Feedback • Verbal feedback is external feedback that is given to you when somebody speaks to you about your performance. • Who can give verbal feedback? • Why would you choose verbal feedback? • Immediate • Clear • Easy to understand • Motivational

  7. Visual Feedback • Visual feedback, is external feedback that we receive through watching our own, or another's performance. • How? • Model performer • Teacher demonstration • Videoing our performance • Why? • Easy to see the strengths/weaknesses.

  8. Written Feedback • Written feedback is external feedback that we receive by reading it. • How? • Making notes on a performance. • Newspapers • Writing down key improvement points. • Analysis sheets (OHC – remember???) • Why? • Clear and easy to understand. • You can keep it on record.

  9. Written Feedback • Remember this? • This is written feedback on our overhead clear in badminton.

  10. Internal Feedback • Internal feedback is where we give ourselves feedback from our ‘kinaesthetic awareness’. • This means, we know if something has gone well or not because we ‘feel’ it. • For example – I knew immediately that my jump shot in basketball would not be successful because it did not feel right in my hands when I shot the ball. • Why? • Quick • Personal • Independent.

  11. Knowledge of Results • Another type of feedback is knowledge of results. • This is where we become aware of our strengths/weaknesses through our results. • IN PAIRS. THINK OF AN EXAMPLE OF A TIME WHERE YOU RECEIVED FEEDBACK THROUGH YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF RESULTS. • Why? • It is easy to see where you are going wrong. • You can easily see what needs to be worked on.

  12. Feedback • In groups of ¾ (Scribe, presenter, group manager, time keeper) • You will be given one of: • Written feedback • Verbal feedback • Visual feedback • Internal feedback • Knowledge of results • Create a poster which shows: a graphic showing the main theme of your poster, the name of your feedback, what it is, why we use it, examples of when we’ve used in in SG PE.
