Welcome to Parent Curriculum Night 2014 3rd Grade Lakeway Elementary **If you have any questions throughout the presentation, please write it down on the sticky notes provided at your table group. Please also include your name, number and/or email address, and I will respond to you promptly.**

  2. Welcome to 3rd Grade!! This is my 10th year teaching at Lakeway Elementary, and I’m so excited to be returning to the 3rd grade team this year!

  5. A few things to remember… • Library • Every Wednesday 10:05 – 10:35 • Check out 2 books each week • Snack: Everyday • Healthy and not too messy • Specials • PE: tennis shoes • Music: recorders *Recorders on sale now for $7* (cash is best)

  6. S.T.A.R. Binder and Planner • STAR Binder Binders need to come to school EVERY day. This year we are working on building student responsibility. These binders take the place of communication folders. Please refer to your child’s planner for upcoming events and tests. Please do not take anything out of the binder. Several of the pages you may use at home to study, we also use here at school. • Planner • Homework and assignments for the week • Behavior Contract

Homework Routine • Read 20 minutes EVERY night • Homework will be sent home on Friday and will be due the following Thursday (math review packet and reading comprehension packet) • Spelling homework is not required, but study tips are included in the STAR binder • In addition to our paper homework, we have several online resources that are available to our students. We ask that students complete 1 RAZ Kids story a week. This can take the place of reading one night.

  9. D.O.L. • Practice sentences are on the back of the weekly study guides and corrected together in class • Tests are every week in paragraph form because this is the way our writing looks!

  10. Spelling Tests • Study all 18 words + vocabulary words • Only 5-10 words will be tested • Students will be graded on proper sentence structure, capitalization, and end punctuation as well as making sure the spelling word is spelled correctly. • Vocabulary words are used as bonus words

Fun 3rd Grade Events! • Columbus Day Float Your Boat – October 10 • Track and Field Day – October 16 (AM) • Pumpkin Math – October 31? • Nutcracker Field Trip – December 9th or 10th • Winter Holiday Party – December 18 • Valentine’s Day Party – February 11 • Inner Space Caverns – May 29 • End of Year Third Grade Carnival – June 3

  13. Field Trips • Long Center - Nutcracker Ballet (Students Only) • December 9th or 10th • Inner Space Caverns (Limited # of Chaperones) • May 29th • You can guarantee your spot by bidding on our class at the carnival!

  14. T-Shirts • Should be worn on field trips, spirit days, field day • Price included in class funds • Please remember these shirts last all year, you may want to order 1 size larger

  15. Transportation • Please send a note with your child if there is any change from the regular or routine mode of transportation. • If there is a change of plans during the school day, contact the front office (hansonl@ltisdschools.org) before noon so a pass can be sent to your child. I may not get a chance to check my email before the end of the day. • Communicate with your child before school if there is any change in transportation.

  16. Birthdays • Bring treats in the morning on the last Friday of the month • Please be considerate of food allergies when making or buying snacks • We will only have 1 bottle of water and 1 treat (cookie or cupcake) per student

  17. Parent Conferences • October 3rd and 8th (Early Release Days) • Sign up for a conference to meet and discuss your child’s progress • We will discuss any testing results and current progress • Ideas for helping your child at home

  19. Before You Leave….. • *Fill out the yellow form about your child • *Leave your child a note • *Sign up for a fall conference • *Leave cash or check for class funds (if you don’t have it today, please send with your child within a week)
