  3. 3A’s Schedule • Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday: Science, Special, Social Studies, Recess/Lunch, DOL/SQUIRT, Math, CA **Wednesday is Orchestra at 11:10 • Thursday: CA, Special, CA, Recess/Lunch, DOL/SQUIRT, Math, CA, Book Buddies • Friday: Special, Science, Social Studies, Recess/Lunch, DOL/SQUIRT, Math, CA, Mystery Reader at 3:10

  4. 3A’s Special Schedule • Monday: Art with Miss Bush • Tuesday: Library with Mrs. Tomczak • Wednesday: Gym with Mrs. Lepant • Thursday: Music with Mrs. Froehlich • Friday: Integrated Arts

  5. 3A’s Behavior Plan • RESPECT is the anchor to our classroom rules • Popcorn Points (both individual and class) • Team Points • Green light, yellow light, red light (3 strikes) • Water bottle reward for completed work

Curriculum • Social Studies: Harcourt “Our Communities” and supplement Macmillan/McGraw-Hill “Pennsylvania: Adventures in Time and Place” • Science: Scott Foresman Science • Communication Arts: Harcourt “Storytown” *6 themes: School Days; Together We Can; As We Grow; Tales to Tell; A Place For All; Discoveries • Writing: The Writing marks have an emphasis on organization, sentence structure and spelling application. It is only given twice a year. • Spelling accompanies each short story • Olweus Bully Prevention Program • Math: Harcourt Series & Rocket Math for basic facts

  7. Rocket Math • Grades one through five daily Math instruction. • Ten-minutes of instruction dedicated to this program each day in class. • Sequential practice and mastery of math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Third grade begins with subtraction. After chapter 8, all students will begin multiplication for rocket math. • Research-based program:  students who gain automaticity with their basic facts are then able to free up cognitive abilities to focus on more complex math concepts. • Nightly review of facts at home is essential.

  8. Homework • Homework is copied from the assignment chart daily. Please initial it each night. • Math is usually assigned four nights a week. • The spelling and vocabulary list is given on Friday. There are two practice pages and a cursive sheet. The cursive sheet is given on Monday and is due Tuesday. The practice pages are given on Tuesday and are both due on Thursday. • The spelling and grammar tests will be on Thursday. The reading and vocabulary tests will be on Friday.

  9. Homework • If students miss class because of pull-outs (GOAL, Instruments, Speech, etc.), it is their responsibility to get the missed homework from the teacher. • Late Assignments: It will be written in assignment book and marked “late”. Please initial that spot as well. The late assignment should be turned in the following day with your initials in the assignment book. • If you are requesting homework, please call the office by 10:00 AM. Do not only email me. • Homework Reward: If the student completes all of the assigned work on time for the week, he/she may bring in a water bottle on Friday. I will announce the eligible students on Thursday.

  10. Grades/Report Card • Tyler System: It will allow you to view your child’s grades. • Report Card grades are based on percentages. The areas that are listed underneath the subject determine how the grade is derived. • Categories underneath each subject area will be marked as a strength, satisfactory, or needs improvement.

  11. Miscellaneous Items • POS Account: Money can be added to account • Book Orders: Checks written to Scholastic & online ordering available • Birthdays: 24 students in class • Star of the Week: 8-10 pictures with captions • Orchestra: 3A Whole Group Orchestra is on Wednesday from 11:10-11:55 • Communication: voicemail, notes, email:mwilliams@northallegheny.org, online calendar & weekly update

  12. Standardized Testing • IOWAs are scheduled during the week of January 12-16, 2015. • The PSSA English Language Arts Tests are April 13-17, 2015. • The PSSA Mathematics Tests are April 20-24, 2015. • No vacation requests will be granted during these times.

  13. Third Grade Activities • Mystery Reader • Center Days • Social Studies-based field trip

  14. Request for supplies • Please make sure that your child has the following items in school: *expandable 5-pocket folder *a highlighter and pen *scissors and glue sticks *post-it notes • Please send in a package of disinfecting wipes for classroom use. The following brands are approved by the district: Clorox, Lysol, or Target brand, as well as Member’s Mark (Sam’s Club) or Kirkland (Costco).
