What do we do ? • We support children from 3yrs -19ys. • Buddies is a range of provision to meet families’ circumstances. • Provide accessible Short Breaks that are flexible to meet the needs and choices of individual children and families that we support. • Provide inclusive short breaks to cater for siblings.
Innovative model • Design and provide individual outcomes focused support • Offer a “Pick and mix” approach of bespoke services so families can choose what suits them now and in the future • We put children/young people and their families at the centre of everything we do • Provide creative solutions • Provide a service 24/7 52 weeks of the year
Innovative model • Provide inclusive services and cater for all ages and disabilities • Match right staff member to the family with appropriate skills and experience • Utilise person centred tools to gather the right information, ask the right questions and focus on the right aims for the child and their family.
What we offer Buddies School Holiday clubs We use SEN schools as a base which provides a safe environment and facilitated by competent staff who have the right skills to provide positive experiences and increase independencefor the child/young person. Buddies@Home This is a time limited outcome focused support which can be across 8-12 weeks in the family home focusing on a specific goal, by working in partnership with the family and equipping them with the tools to go beyond the support with less reliance on external mechanisms. Buddies Go Camping In partnership with adventures activity centres . 4 children supported by 3 Buddies, ratio enables children with complex needs to attend the fun, outside action packed weekends.
Profiling • The journey begins with a profile. We complete a comprehensive ‘getting to know you’ child friendly, person centred profile of each young person which includes: • One page profile • Communication chart • Family Support Agreement • Person Centred Risk Assessment • My Plan
Buddies Go Camping • How does it work ? • Developing a profile for the child using the child centred tools • Developing relations with family and building that key rapport • Having a clear plan of what goals are to be achieved across the weekend and monitoring progress and • Having the right emphasis; the child having a fun experience whilst the family are safe in the knowledge their child is being supported by specialist staff.
Buddies Go Camping • What outcomes are achieved? • Dramatically increased confidence and emotional wellbeing • Social integration and the ability to make friends • Improvement in behaviour • Problem solving and independent thinking skills • Confidence in trying new things • Independence.
Children/young people gain experience of: • Spending time developing friendships with their peers • Opportunity to have new experiences and try new activities • Being part of a peer group which increases confidence and self worth • Developing every day living skills and promoting independence • A sense of achievement, have stories of adventures to share and feel exhilarated.
We do this through partnership working with families • Ensure families build trust and confidence in us as an organisation and work in partnership. • Listen and understand family experiences and the depth of knowledge. All family members are the experts by experience. • Honour our commitment to making an offer based upon what’s important to/for people. • Engage through a variety of means continuing to be accessible, responsive, meeting individual need. • Working so closely with families will help us to remain in touch with how relatives feel about the support we provide and enable us to assess how we can improve.
We are able to deliver by: • Delivering person centred services that actively engage the child or young person in all decisions related to choosing their support and any activities • Every child we support will have agreed outcomes and will be supported to achieve these • Offering a wide range of activities to meet individual need • Delivering services that are accessible to children and young people and at times that are suitable to them
We are able to deliver by: • Ensuring all support services take into account any associated risks and safeguard children and young people at all times • Ensuring all staff undertake the same recruitment process and training • Ensuring the scheme is all inclusive and enabling siblings the chance to be involved so that the scheme is open to all children, whatever their abilities • Building meaningful relationships and working in partnership with children, families, schools and local organisations.
