“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…” (Matthew 28:19)
“Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? … in order that…we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:3-4)
“…having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:12)
“…having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:12) Baptism is an act of faith wherein we are not only physically immersed in water but also spiritually immersed in Christ.
“…baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Baptism is a landmark for obedience, establishing a precedent for yielding to all other biblical commands. Water baptism, then, is critical to establish an obedient lifestyle, but not necessary to receive eternal life.
Water baptism is critical for obedience but not criterion for salvation.
