Safety • Take 5 for Safety…………..Ed Lessard • The emergency generator at 2 o'clock is out of service waiting for a replacement part which is expected to be here this week. Without the generator, if normal power is lost, the emergency exhaust fans will not run and emergency lighting will not be available. This impacts both fire protection and ODH protection. • If normal power is lost, the ODH monitors and fire alarms still function. • A reminder that all workers must have a flashlight to enter tunnels and rings. • Temporary Rule: • If the lights go out, please leave the tunnel immediately. • At the current temperature of the ring down to 20 K, without emergency exhaust fans it will take over an hour to drop the oxygen concentration in the tunnel area at 2 o'clock to less than 18%, except as always right at the leak location. (see below for details) • We will keep everyone up to date on the status of the generator.
Schedule: Past • Lab Peak Power for October is 29.4 MW. • NSRL run ended 2:00 PM Fri 26 Oct 2007. • RHIC Ring has been posted ODH-0. • Cryo: Much Progress • Initial problems for BtA transfer due to AGS RF instability are now fixed. • Polarity change for Q7 for IBS Suppression lattice. • ZDCs moved (?) • No resolution to multi-target problems in Tandem.
Schedule: Present • Working on AGS Fast Extraction of Deuterons. • Working on AGS 2-to-1 bunch merge. • Dry Run 08B 29-31 October is underway • Air Conditioning troubles in 1002 and alcove 7A prevent exercising full ramp. Overheating Trips BPMs. • Leaks in stochastic cooling feedthroughs under control. • 9MHz cavity lacking water cooling.
Schedule: Future • RHIC Ring to be posted for Radiation on Tuesday 6 Nov. • APEX Workshop 1-2 Nov. • LIPA work on Booster transformer and other nightmares… • Test X and Y arcs on 1 Nov. • BLIP schedule advancing? Dec 3. • STAR and PHENIX magnets come on for testing beginning Monday 5 Nov but not running until 15 Nov. (Power savings) • d-Au collisions by Thur 22 Nov. • Intensity ramp-up and scrubbing Thur. 22 Nov to Fri 30 Nov. • Physics by Sat 1 Dec 2007. • Low Energy Au-Au Run possible if one Tandem fails.
