  2. Hello my name is Daniel Rock house I am a survivor from the pike river mine explosion and I'm going to tell you my story.

  3. On the 19th of November 2010 it was a normal morning for mine worker Daniel rock house as he went down into the mine in his loader when he arrives at his working post he starts working.

  4. suddenly he was flung from his loader by a large explosion and a loud boom he said he was scared and wanted to be anywhere but here.

  5. He was worried about his brother who was deeper in the mine and could be hurt or worse dead

  6. he grabbed an oxygen mask and thought about what to do he decided to call the mine boss and he told him that there had been an explosion in the mine.

  7. Then he started on a 7.2 kilometre walk back to safety that he didn’t know would take him 2 and ½ hours

  8. on his way he found a leaking air pipe and he inhaled the cool air from outside this helped him on his way.

  9. Now at this stage he had been walking for about 2 hours when he found colleague Russell smith and they both stumbled to safety where they were looked at by paramedics.

  10. Over the next few weeks he heard that there were more explosions and that they could not send a rescue team he understood why they couldn’t but he was worried he would never see his brother again and he never did he tragically died.

  11. Also unfortunately so did everyone else in the mine except for Daniel rock house and Russell smith.
