Kick Start of Portal • Acting Executive Director appoints a Portal Lead • Under the auspices of the Geospatial Applications and Interoperability Working Group (GAI WG) • In Coordination with FGDC and OGC • Participation in action • Proposed Start of Method with Schedule presented to the Board of Directors 10/9/02 • Vision: Portal will be the mechanism for other “portals” to plug into for access by all sectors

Geospatial One-Stop Portal Concept • Portal is an online access point for geospatial data, maps of data, and metadata about data • Information is stored at data provider sites, not in Portal • Portal utilizes open standards for interoperability • Geospatial web service specifications • Metadata and content standards • Portal builds upon NSDI by providing direct access to data specific to task & location • Web-based user interface for human access • Application interface for GIS/DSS access
Portal Implementation Plan • Implement Portal via OGC Interoperability Initiative • Plan approved by Geo 1-Stop Board Oct 9 • Multi-vendor solution with proven track record • Geo 1-Stop agencies provide cost-sharing resources • Portal Team is developing: • requirements • conceptual architecture • selection criteria
Portal Status • First task complete: Call For Additional Requirements • to broad spectrum of state/local/tribal/federal groups • Next step: develop RFQ to be issued by OGC • spell out technical requirements in detail • include responses from Call For Additional Rqmts • Major milestones: • RFQ release Dec 6 • Initiative kickoff early February 2003 • Portal demonstrated & installed late May
