OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR • To Express the term Teacher Education • To explain the term Educational Technology • To explore the objectives of Teacher Education • To explore the objectives of Educational Technology • To explain the use and scope of Educational Technology in Teacher Education • To Indicate the difficulties in using Educational Technology in Teacher Education • To share the theme with participants of the seminar to reach on a practical solution for the use of Educational Technology in Teacher Education in Pakistan

TEACHER EDUCATION Teacher Education is an art, a skill, and a quality to direct the trainee teachers in teaching learning process, and equip them with all necessary skills and knowledge in order to enable them to perform their duties in an organized and optimum manner. It refers to policies and procedures designed to equip teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom.

GOALS OF TEACHER EDUCATION • Analyzing students abilities • Analyzing learning difficulties • Analyzing Program of Instruction • Analyzing Environmental Conditions • Defining of Objectives • Determining the sequence of instruction • Understanding different types of learning • Managing instructional time, space & resources • Progress of teacher, student, content and methodology • Evaluating Pupils Progress

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY • Educational Technology (also called learning technology) may be conceived as a science of techniques and methods by which educational goals can be realized. • It may be defined as a systematic application of scientific knowledge to the Teaching Learning Process. • It is a study and practice of facilitating the learning process and improving performance by creating and managing resources.

OBJECTIVES OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY • To determine the goals and formulate the objectives in behavioral terms. • To analyze the characteristics of the learner. • To organize the content in logical and psychological sequence. • To mediate between content and resources of presentation. • To evaluate the learner’s performance in terms of achieving educational objectives. • To provide the feedback among other components for the modification of learners. • To develop technology enriched learning environments that enable our students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, manage their own learning and assessing their own progress.

USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHER EDUCAITON • Educational Technology (ET) Supplement and make dynamic the process of teaching. • ET makes the teaching learning process scientific, objective and interesting. • ET brings an appreciable change in the attitude of Students and Teachers. • ET makes the classroom environment an innovative and dramatized. • ET provides the opportunities for utilization of all kinds of aids and machines in process of teaching and learning. • ET plays a pivotal role in training of Teachers in field of micro teaching, simulations, system approach and classroom interactions.

USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHER EDUCAITON • ET helps in improving teaching learning process and makes its more purposive, effective and efficient. • Educational Administrative problems can be solved scientifically with the help of system Analysis. • ET helps in understanding the structure and nature of teaching. Teaching models can be developed for achieving different objectives of education.

USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHER EDUCAITON • ET provides the scientific foundation to the teaching process. • ET provides innovative strategies to facilitate teachers to redress the individual problems in the class room. • ET helps in improving the teacher in using teaching methods in an interactive way.

USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHER EDUCAITON • Lecturer Strategy, Lesson Demonstration Tutorials, Programmed Instructions, Project Teaching, Micro Teaching, Group Discussion, Brain Storming and Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) can be used more effectively with the use of ET in Teacher Education. • ET makes the process of communication effective and efficient with the help of instructional aids and instruments.

USE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHER EDUCAITON • ET helps to engage students in exploring real world issues using digital tools and resources. • ET helps to promote conceptual understanding, thinking, planning, and creative process. • ET helps to develop a model to engage the students of other cultures using global communication and collaboration tools

PROBLEMS IN USING EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY IN TECACHER EDUCAITON IN PAKISTAN • Curriculum of Teacher Education is outdated. • Teacher training programmes are insufficient and do not meet the requirements of present time. • Educational Aids are costly and not available. • Lack of time and resources on the part of teacher. • Stress remains on rot-memory in spite of concept learning. • Overlapping of the educational Technology in teacher education • Incompetence of teacher in using educational Technology • Lack of research in the field of educational Technology in teacher education

  16. Key Questions to Consider(Food for Thought) • Is available technology sufficient for teacher education in Pakistan? • Is our teacher competent to use the available technology in effective and efficient way?
