What are Structured Schedules? • Predictable schedule, constant throughout • Block schedules and sequenced courses • Students choose programs, not courses • Students go full-time as the default or part-time year round
Structured Schedules Options • Morning, afternoon, evening or weekend blocks • 5-days a week or certain days • Shorter term courses • Organized by program
Why Structured Schedules? • To increase on-time completion • Reduce credits to degree • Support working and non-traditional students • Consistency facilitates progress

TCAT Program Structure • Students enroll in academic programs • Full-time programs are offered M-F 7:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m. or part-time options are available • Before they enroll, students know the program costs, the classes, time frame to graduation and what jobs are available

Students want structure… “I actually like that approach because I’ve had the days where I go to class for an hour, and then I have two hours off. Well, I really don’t want to drive home just to drive all the way back. Texas Legislation HB1583 • To facilitate timely degree completion by students at public junior collegesin the following associate degrees or certificate programs: • allied health • nursing • career and technology • The college shall establish, for at least five programs not • previously offered as a block schedule curriculum, a block schedule • curriculum under which: • (1) courses required are offered each semester in scheduled blocks • - morning, full-day, afternoon, evening, or weekend block schedule • - designed to provide scheduling predictability • (2) students may enroll in an entire block schedule • curriculum offered under the program in a semester
