History Declarative • Following their prey the Native Americans crossed the Bering Straitwhich was an ice bridge at the time approximately 20,000 years ago and they were nomads people with no permanent home and the food they followed was buffalo. • These nomads were each a separate nation, and they lived in different regions of the earth. • Native Americans were careful not to overuse their resources.   3. Regions Declarative • Native Americans were settled in different regions inAmerica. After crossing the Bering Strait. • The coastal regions, such as California and the Northwest Coast, were moist, had mild weather, and contained many animals. • The Plateau and Great Basin were both located between the Sierra Nevada's and Rockies but the Plateau was slightly different because the Plateau had a higher altitude and the Plateau had a cool wet climatebut the Great Basin had a severe climate with extremes of hot and cold. • The Great Plains and the Southwest had vast, treeless plains and little to moderate rainfall. Lifestyles Declarative • Native Americans settled all throughout North America and adapted their lifestyles to the weather and environment of the region. • All Native Americans, until many were converted to Christianity, believed that everything in nature contained a spirit, even rocks! • A basic rule in the clans was that the elders received respect and sovereignty above the other tribal members. • Working only for necessities, was important in a Native American’s life, for they believed that life was too short and important to waste. verb noun Exclamatory proper noun Declarative adjective verb noun Declarative noun pronoun

  5. Basic Activities of Man (B.A.M) • Every group of people have BAM (“The Basic Activities of Man”); it is how they live. The Native Americans’ BAM was dependant upon the region they settled in. • There are ten “Basic Activities of Man”: trade, transportation, communication, conservation, education, tools, recreation, social government, moral and religious beliefs, and aesthetics. • Native Americans had clothes and goods just enough to sustainthemselves for they did not want to waste life and they had many recreational activities and they believed that the elders were the leaders in their “government”. Interaction with Explorers Declarative • Beginning in the late 1400’s, Europeans began an exploration for the “New World”, and what they found was plenty, including Native Americans. •  When the Spanish came around in California, they converted the natives to Catholicism and they also made them dig for gold and they spread their culture to the Indians. • The Portuguese built sugarplantations and they tried to enslave Native Americans (but failed).
