Class Format • Primary “instructor” :the Hawkes computer courseware • NOT a distance education class rather a “hybrid” course • All assignments and tests: completed on the computer. • Nolectures, but I canassist if you need help.
Advantages • While there are deadlines for assignments and tests, students find this format a bit more flexible. • All work except TESTScan be done at home or on other campus computers. • It is a good way to review materials that you learned in the past.
Disadvantages • Many students are more successful in a structured, lecture environment. • While there is an instructor available to help, you are responsible for learning the material via computer courseware. • There are no scheduled lectures.
Criteria for Success • You like learning on your own. • The material you are learning is, for the most part, a review of material you have had in the past but have forgotten. • You are VERY self-motivated.
Proper Placement • Wrong course? Is the material too easy or too hard? Please see me. • Lecture course better?Check immediately for any open sections and make the change. (Unfortunately, by the time the quarter starts, many courses are already full.) • More information about math placement and Sample Entrance Exams? Please visit:http://www.instruction.greenriver.edu/DIV-Math/Advising/default.htm
Attendance Requirement • Attendance the first full week is REQUIRED. • After week 1 only required attendance is for TESTS. • TESTS must be taken in class during your scheduled class time. • Attendance is NOT part of your grade.
