The Flowering Plants There are many different kinds of flowering plants. Compared to other plants, flowering plants are “newcomers” on Earth.

A Plant Is Born The seed coat splits. The root grows downward. A tiny shoot appears, then breaks through the soil to reach sunlight. The first leaves use the sun’s energy to make food for the plant.
