  4. Exploration • Are there differences between a plant cell and an animal cell? • Start a list of the differences that you see. • Plant Cell: • http://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm • Animal Cell: • http://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm

  5. Cell Parts • Cell Membrane - forms the outer boundary of the cell and allows only certain materials to enter or exit the cell • Cytoplasm - a gel-like material found inside the cell; contains water and nutrients for the cell • Nucleus - directs the activity of a cell; it contains chromosomes with the DNA • Nuclear Membrane - separates the nucleus from the cytoplasm

  6. Cell Parts continued • Endoplasmic Reticulum - moves materials around in the cell • Ribosomes - make protein for the cell • Golgi Bodies - are used for packaging and secreting of energy • Mitochondria - break down food and release energy to the cell • Lysosomes - are chemicals used to digest waste • Vacuoles - are storage areas for the cell

  7. Extension • Use the internet to find the other types of cells. • Students can also compare the parts of the cell to a factory and make similies.

  8. Evaluation • Draw pictures of the different cells without labeling whether it is an animal or plant cell. • Exchange pictures with other group • Groups will decide what the drawing is- a plant or animal cell.

  9. Technology Integration • Used website to look at cell parts and differences between plant and animal cells • Navigated through the internet to find website • Teacher used Microsoft word to create worksheets. • For this presentation- powerpoint
