  3. - “Turn the other cheek” • No revenge • No response to insults • - Give your coat • This would leave one naked • Allegorical statement • Need to trust in God to insure that Justice will happen when it does not on Earth

  4. - Walk 2 miles • Army demands • Do not retaliate against an oppressor

  5. FOR US TODAY • - Justice YES, revenge NO • Genesis 4:23-24 • Lamech and Tu Bal Cain kill Cain legend • A punishment does not exceed the crime • - Why did Jesus have to expand the definition of love your neighbor?

  6. FOR US TODAY • - Jesus was not a pacifist – punishment = crime • - Life’s not fair; not all people are treated equally; let God fix the problem • - Resolution: As disciples of Jesus we need to follow His words even when society does not.
