A single verse parable • Looks simple, right? Introduction
Why would people bury treasures in their fields? • What happened if the owner died before passing along the location? Culture
Biblical Law about finding a property? 1 "You shall not see your countryman's ox or his sheep straying away, and pay no attention to them; you shall certainly bring them back to your countryman. 2 "If your countryman is not near you, or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall remain with you until your countryman looks for it; then you shall restore it to him. 3 "Thus you shall do with his donkey, and you shall do the same with his garment, and you shall do likewise with anything lost by your countryman, which he has lost and you have found. You are not allowed to neglect them. (Deut. 22:1-3 NAU) Culture

The finder of the treasure did not return it • Jesus came to fulfill the Torah and prophets • Therefore, the treasure He spoke of is not physical property • The Treasure is the Kingdom of Heaven • The Kingdom of Heaven is supposed to be found • The Kingdom of Heaven is available to all The Twist
Jesus was telling us about Proverbs 13:13-15 13 The one who despises the word will be in debt to it, But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded. 14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of. 15 Good understanding produces favor, But the way of the treacherous is hard. (Prov. 13:13-15 NAU) For us today
