I SurvivedThe Sinking Of The Titanic By: Lauren Tarshis Presentation by Madison Joyner
The Introduction…. George is a brave young boy traveling on the Titanic with his aunt and sister. They are heading home to New York after visiting their aunt. One cold night the Titanic hits an iceberg. The ship begins to sink! When there is no room for George on a life boat, he and another adult are forced to jump overboard to save their lives.
The Characters….. George Calder is brave and mischievous. During his travels he has gotten into trouble for wandering around to explore and not telling his aunt. George shows his bravery by wandering around alone and by jumping in cold water to save his life. George’s aunt is elegant, but sad because her husband recently died. However, she is having fun with her niece and nephew. George’s sister Pheobe is kind and always looks out for her brother. She is very inquisitive and smart. I am a lot like Pheobe because I like to learn about new things and I am smart! I don’t think I could have been as brave as George was when he jumped into the cold water.
My Favorite Part…. My favorite part of this book was when George takes a journey to the bottom of the boat. The man who built the boat told George that there’s a mummy on the bottom deck. Not just any mummy but an Egyptian princess mummy! When George gets down to the bottom deck and is about to carve open the casket a thief jumps out and attacks him with his knife.
About The Author…. Lauren Tarshis lives with her husband and four kids in Connecticut. She likes to read, draw, bake cakes, write, of course, but most of all spend time with her family. Her favorite part about writing is connecting with her readers. Lauren Tarshis had a learning disability when she was in the fourth grade. I think that its cool that she didn’t let that stop her from being the great writer that she is.
